Tucked away in a serene and secluded setting lies the Surin Phuket, an upscale beachfront 5-star resort. Listed as one of the finest luxury hotels in Phuket, the residence comprises of 103 cottages and suites that blend perfectly into their natural surroundings. Enclaved within a coconut grove at Pansea Bay, the location of The Surin offers a peaceful hideaway from the hustle and bustle of Phuket, far away from the noise and haze that I otherwise found troublesome.
The cottages perched on a green hillside offer the most privacy, whilst the beach cottages boast uninterrupted sea views. Whichever you choose, all the units are separate and provide a tranquil sanctuary amidst heavenly scenery.
I stayed in a hillside cottage, situated in a tropical setting amongst the treetops at a wonderful elevation above the lobby level. The elevated position offered privacy and tranquility, which I highly appreciated as this is what I seek during my travels. I enjoyed the private verandah with twin loungers, where I spent my mornings taking in a hint of an ocean view whilst imbibing on my morning coffee. The space was uniquely decorated with comfortable furnishings, subtle lighting and tasteful decor, and came complete with a his-and-hers closet space, as well as a bathroom with a spa-like shower, with tiling reminiscent of river rock. Winding jungle walkways lined with palm trees led me to the central pavilion, with the reception at the top, followed by the facilities floor by floor – from restaurant to a gym to the hexagonal pool and finally a beachfront bar.
Sport & Leisure
The private beach boasts ideal swimming spots right offshore, and plenty of fluffy beach duffels were waiting for me on the beach. With the watersport area, adventure is always at the corner. The facility offers a wide range of exhilarating activities – from windsurfing along the shores of the beach, to catamaran sailing off into the Andaman Sea, either with an instructor or independently. I appreciated the wide range of leisure activities offered, as I easily get bored and so like to stay active and try new sports. There really was no limit to the number of activities guests could engage in, I really wore myself out. My favourite beach activity was kayaking, which was great fun as I had a skilled lifeguard guide me around the shore.
The Surin Phuket has an extensive array of dining experiences for you to choose from. Lomtalay, a restaurant characterized by its grand glass-enclosed architecture, houses the generous breakfast buffet that is served every morning, which comprises a mix of international and Thai options, such as fresh fruit, pastries, local Thai dishes, and freshly made omelets.
There is also the option to dine right by the ocean at the Beach Restaurant, which offers authentic Thai Cuisine and fresh grilled seafood, as well as The Beach Bar, where you can enjoy nibbles and cocktails amid tropical breezes.
For my dinner, I sampled a three-course from The Sunset restaurant, which overlooks the hexagonal pool and the ocean. Mediterranean and International cuisine is on the menu, with options such as Lamb Milanese, Veal Spezzatino and baked sea bass.
Come nightfall, I ordered something indulgent to eat from the room service. I much prefer room service, as it allows me to eat in the comfort of my own space, while splayed out on my large bed.
The spa facility, tucked away on a hill surrounded by a lush tropical garden, offers a relaxed ambience and a diverse range of spa and beauty treatments, from Thai massages to beauty therapies. Each spa cottage, located at the slopes of the hills, features double treatment beds. One of the special services that The Surin Phuket offers is their 60-minute Thai massage which I was dying to try. It starts off with a welcome signature herbal drink, which is followed by a refreshing floral foot milk bath and then the massage. I felt that the yoga-like stretching improved my circulation, as well as reduced my stress that seems to follow me wherever I go, even on my travels.
The Surin Phuket remarkable resorts with beauty that rightfully matches its lush, tropical surroundings. It is safe to say that the it fulfills every expectation for a luxury hotel stay. It has a warm ambiance while combining both Asian and Western influences splendidly and the location, nestled within the hills of Pansea Beach on the west coast of Phuket Island.
Beautifully designed and aptly situated behind picturesque tropical gardens, I could happily have spent the entire week in The Surin Phuket, sitting on our balcony, and taking in the view.
I can recommend The Surin Phuket if you are looking for a peaceful respite, nested in your own slice of the otherwise very busy Phuket.
